Grupo Costanera

50.01% Atlantia, 49.99% Canada Pension Plan Investment Board

Description of the transaction

In August 2012, Atlantia completed the sale of a 49.99% stake in Grupo Costanera to the pension fund, Canada Pension Plan Investment Board (CPPIB).

Strategic rationale for the transaction

The partnership with CPPIB, already present in Chile’s infrastructure sector, strengthened Grupo Costanera’s position as the country’s number one motorway infrastructure operator. Grupo Costanera manages over 50% of the urban motorway network serving Santiago through four operating companies (Costanera Norte, Vespucio Sur, Nororiente and AMB) and two greenfield concessions awarded in 2018 (AVO II and Ruta 78-68), in addition to the motorway operator in the Valparaìso region (Litoral Central).

Description of the partner

CPPIB is one of the world’s largest institutional investors, managing assets on behalf of the Canada Pension Plan. As at 31 December 2020, the fund managed assets worth US$400 billion. https://www.cppinvestments.com/
